About the Role
Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Grooming Team Lead is a key member of the Grooming team. This role ensures well-maintained terrain through effective and safe management of the slopes grooming team, equipment, schedules and processes, in alignment with the departmental budget, company procedures and departmental training. This is a hands-on position which provides direction to crew and ensures that all departmental documentation and administration is completed accurately and in a timely basis.
Requirements
Accountabilities:
Provide training and supervision of the grooming and snowmaking crews to ensure all equipment is operated in a safe, efficient and responsible manner
Responsible for hiring and training seasonal teams
Ensure daily liaising with Mountain Safety Team to ensure daily weather, slope maintenance and control plans are clearly understood
Oversee day-to-day operations and assign tasks to the grooming and snowmaking crews
Manage labor costs through effective and efficient scheduling, inputting and approval of employee hours of work through ezLabor
Responsible for ensuring maintenance and safety directives are adhered to
Accurately complete daily vehicle log sheets and daily data input forms
Complete all pre- and post-trip inspections including removal of snow from frame at end of shift
Perform daily light maintenance including topping up fluids, cleaning interior and exterior, greasing, and fueling of machine as needed
Recognize and report unusual noises and conditions to maintenance
Coordinate the maintenance of lift staging areas, facility and parking lot entrances, race courses and start ramps, rail jams, ski cross and tube parks as needed
Ensure all pertinent grooming and trail condition information is communicated to security or dispatch to complete daily grooming report
Deliver departmental training and participate in resort orientation
Assist with performance management, including regular feedback to the grooming & snowmaking crews and assistance with disciplinary measures as required
Compliance with all safety regulations of assigned tasks, and ensure a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the health and safety program
Adhere to all environmental policies and programs as required
Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Previous experience operating Snowcats or comparable equipment with excellent safety record
Mechanical aptitude and understanding of basic operations and maintenance of equipment
Basic understanding of mountain resort maintenance and ski / snowboarding needs
Knowledge of snow grooming equipment operation and standards
Demonstrated previous experience effectively managing or supervising a team
Demonstrated previous experience in administration and budgeting of department or team
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) applications
Previous first aid experience an asset

Must be able to work flexible hours, including evening or night shifts
Must be physically capable of operating and maintaining equipment
This role will be exposed for brief periods to extreme weather conditions at the resort (snow, wind, cold) in isolated areas
