About the Role

Join the Cypress Team as a qualified Facilities Maintenance/Carpenter. Primary responsibilities include fabricating and installing wooden and other structures according to specifications, making a variety of repairs to buildings, setting-up facilities for Team member and public use, and making changes to existing buildings. The job entails working in diverse settings to produce steady and functional infrastructure and products.

An ideal candidate will have an eye for detail, great hand dexterity and good knowledge of wood properties and other carpentry materials. Working with little supervision while following all health and safety standards is essential.

The goal is to contribute to the construction and maintenance of strong and long-lasting buildings and products while developing open communication pathways and strong working relationships with all related departments.

Requirements

  • Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to fully grasp requirements.

  • Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed.

  • Cut, shape and smooth lumber and other material according to measurements.

  • Build window frames, doors, staircases and frame buildings by using raw materials or pre-constructed items.

  • Oversee installation of flooring, roofing, plumbing and glass and other trade work ensuring they are of a high standard.

  • Assemble furniture, cabinets, shelves and other items and install them where designated.

  • Inspect places and conduct repairs or maintenance.

  • Build scaffolding and other construction structures.

  • Assist with building operation, maintenance, clearing snow, emptying garbage when required.

  • Support and promote adherence to the Cypress Mountain Health and Safety program.

  • Ensure the keeping and maintenance of facility records are accurate and up-to-date.

  • Complete other projects and duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES:

  • Proven experience as carpenter.

  • Hands-on experience in working with carpentry materials.

  • Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction.

  • Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, rulers etc.).

  • Able to operate various equipment including scissor/boom lift, forklift/telehandler, loader, etc.

  • Ability to read technical documents and drawings.

  • A good understanding of Building Science.

  • Knowledge of Building Envelope.

  • Willingness to follow Safe Work Procedures at all times.

  • Ability to work in both cold and hot outdoor conditions (mountain conditions).

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

  • Well organized, punctual, hardworking, self-motivated and outgoing.

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Ability to remain organized and courteous when under pressure.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • High School Diploma with a good understanding of basic math.

  • Must be able to legally work in Canada.

  • Valid driver’s license (must meet all regulatory requirements to operate trucks and other equipment used).

  • A reliable/insured vehicle to get to/from work (shift start/end times are outside shuttle bus hours).

  • Any applicable safety training is an asset (i.e. WHMIS, Fall protection).

27/hour
