About the Role
As a leader within our forward-looking organization, the Manager will participate in our talented team’s positive environment; both within the organization and with partners such as the City of Abbotsford. The successful candidate will help develop and implement the Taste of Abby Fall Food Festival, Canada Day Family Festival, small-scale Tourism Industry events, and the Abbotsford Ambassador Program. The position requires someone with a positive, anything-is-possible creative spirit and who can foster relationships and interest in community and tourism.
Requirements
Lead the planning and coordination for a variety of tourism-led special events ranging from small industry events to large festivals.
Schedule and coordinate the activities of staff, volunteers, and contractors for special events.
Schedule Superhost Training for staff, volunteers and local businesses.
Manage budgets related to the planning and execution of special events.
The ability to prepare and maintain event records and reports.
Coordinate a tourism presence at select community-led special events.
Coordinate marketing plans with Destination Marketing Staff including website and social media channels
Process applications and permits and provide post-event evaluations.
Solicit Sponsors, prizes, and in-kind donations. Seek out grants or other sources of funding to support destination development initiatives.
Create and oversee risk management and safety plans.
Ensure all aspects are “on-brand” and align with City and Tourism Abbotsford policies and procedures.
Organize and attend relevant meetings which may include creating meeting schedules, and agendas and taking minutes.
Attend various public functions and tourism events,
Act as a resource for the community regarding Special Events

Desired Skills
Considerable knowledge of large-scale special events planning, logistics, implementation, and evaluation, as well as knowledge of the Abbotsford community.
Sound knowledge of methods, policies and procedures applicable to public events.
Considerable knowledge of the interests and functions of the local community, community groups and agencies, and available community resources.
The ability to direct, supervise and facilitate the planning and execution of community events, including implementing large special events.
A high level of interpersonal skills, flexibility and adaptability, and the ability to work independently with sound judgment.
The ability to skillfully manage divergent community expectations and dynamics while establishing and maintaining working relationships with external groups and organizations.
Proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Sound knowledge in Adobe and Canva.
Collaborate with local tourism businesses on the delivery of special events.
Prepare and submit quarterly activity and performance reports to the Executive Director.

Salary range $65,000 - $70,000 Flexible work arrangements and schedule, including some work from home opportunities, •Health and dental benefits package and RRSP program (following 3-month probation).
